Esperance Kepa Kurl is made for family holidays. Think sandy beaches and calm lagoons, playgrounds on the foreshore, native wildlife and wide open spaces to explore together.
Whether your crew loves climbing, splashing, riding or getting creative, there's plenty to fill your days, rain or shine. Here's where to start.
Play time for all ages
The Esplanade is the heart of family fun in town, with grassy foreshore, ocean views and plenty of room to run. Pack a picnic and make a day of it.
-
Adventureland Park, The Esplanade. A big foreshore playground for climbing, swinging and sliding.
-
Esperance Skate Park and Pump Track, The Esplanade. Bring the scooters, bikes and boards for the older kids (and big kids).
-
Nature Playground, Jetty Headland. Natural play spaces right by the water.
-
All Abilities Playground, James Street Precinct. An inclusive playground designed so every child can join in.
-
Esperance Miniature Railway, Taylor Street. All aboard for a ride on the little train, a favourite with younger kids.
Beach days
Sandcastles, rock pools and a refreshing dip are what family holidays here are made of. Choose a calmer spot for little swimmers:
-
The Whale Tail on the Esplanade has a beach enclosure and lap pontoon.
-
Twilight Beach is patrolled on Sundays (9am–3pm) from December to March, and on summer public holidays.
-
Ocean lagoons along the Great Ocean Drive offer calm swimming when the tides are right.
Esperance's coastline is beautiful and powerful. Keep the kids off the slippery black rocks, and read our Coastal Safety guide before you hit the beach.
Get on the water
-
Island cruise
Head out among the islands of the Recherche Archipelago with Esperance Island Cruises, family-run since 1983. The 3.5-hour, 55km cruise is a chance to see seals, sea lions and Cape Barren geese, and snorkel gear is on board.
-
Throw in a line
Fishing and family holidays go hand in hand. Pick up a free tide chart and fish size guide, then try your luck from the shore. Our Land Based Fishing guide has the best spots.
-
Outdoor adventures
Paddle, play and get competitive with Esperance Outdoor Adventures. Their outdoor activities for all ages include kayaking, nature play programs and archery tag, whether your family are seasoned adventurers or first-timers.
Into nature
-
Look out for wildlife. Keep your eyes open for birds, kangaroos and other native animals as you explore the national parks. If you're lucky enough to see them, admire from a distance, and never feed or touch wildlife.
-
Easy walks for little legs. The 1.2km Monjinup Trail boardwalk is a gentle wander, and the Kepwari Trail at Woody Lake is a haven for waterbirds.
-
Esperance Stonehenge. Wander among 137 pink granite stones at the only full-size replica of the original Stonehenge, on the way to Cape Le Grand.
-
Lunch with a lawn. Lucky Bay Brewing has a lawn play area, so the kids can run around while you relax.
Rain or shine
When the weather turns, there's still plenty to keep the whole family busy.
-
Bay of Isles Leisure Centre, Black Street. Burn off some energy indoors.
-
Esperance Bird and Animal Park. Hands-on encounters with friendly birds and animals, with a cafe overlooking the peaceful rural setting.
-
Good Little Things. Art and messy-play workshops for creative kids.
-
Fenwick Cinema. Catch a family movie.
-
Read a book. Drop in to Dear Village and pick up a book for holiday reading.
-
Esperance Library. Free school holiday sessions, pop-up play, workshops and events have made the library a hub for summer connection.
-
Esperance Museum. Discover local history together.
-
Esperance Mini Golf and Jolly Jalopy Hire, The Esplanade. An 18-hole indoor mini golf course near Adventureland Park, with Jolly Jalopies to hire too. Open school holidays and most Sundays, so check their Facebook page before you go.
